Google Search Console (GSC) is one of the most powerful free SEO tools available. It provides direct insights into how your website is performing in Google Search, helping you make data-driven decisions to improve rankings, increase traffic, and fix technical issues.
If you’re not using GSC regularly, you’re missing out on critical SEO data. Here’s how I track my SEO performance in under 30 minutes using Google Search Console.
Step 1: Log Into Google Search Console
Start by heading to Google Search Console and selecting your website.
Step 2: Analyse Search Performance
Go to the Search Results report. This is where you’ll find key insights into how your pages are performing in Google Search.
What to do:
✅ Analyse trends over different timeframes (last 28 days, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year).
✅ Compare to previous periods to identify performance changes.
✅ Browse top queries and sort by impressions & clicks to see which keywords drive traffic.
✅ Check the Pages report to see which URLs get the most clicks & impressions.
✅ Review top countries & device breakdowns to understand your audience.
Step 3: Review Indexing Issues
Go to the Indexing section to ensure Google is properly crawling and indexing your pages.
What to do:
✅ Check "Not Indexed" pages and investigate why they aren’t appearing in search.
✅ Review your Sitemaps to make sure Google has recently crawled them.
If Google isn’t indexing important pages, you’re missing out on potential rankings and traffic.
Step 4: Check Page Experience & Core Web Vitals
User experience is a ranking factor, and Google’s Experience section helps you optimise for it.
What to do:
✅ Make sure all pages are HTTPS (secure).
✅ Read Core Web Vitals reports and fix any issues related to page speed and interactivity.
Improving Core Web Vitals can increase rankings and user engagement.
Step 5: Analyse Links
Go to the Links section to understand your website’s internal and external link profile.
What to do:
✅ Identify top external links pointing to your site.
✅ Analyse internal links to see if key pages are getting enough internal linking support.
✅ Understand how links are happening and look for opportunities to improve.
Internal links help distribute authority across your site, while external links signal credibility to Google.
The 30-Minute SEO Routine
You can complete this analysis in 30 minutes, and you should do it at least once per month.
Most importantly: Don’t just analyse—take action!
✔️ Identify pages that need optimisation.
✔️ Fix indexing & crawling issues.
✔️ Improve Core Web Vitals for better user experience.
✔️ Build internal links to important pages.
